A large group of people allegedly recklessly riding mini bikes in Huntington Beach prompted calls to police and led to three arrests and a pair of citations Saturday afternoon, Sept. 5, authorities said.
Where and when the group was spotted riding was not disclosed by police Saturday, but when officers arrived on the scene, most riders took off, according to a Huntington Beach Police Department post on Facebook .
Police said a large group of pocket bikes “entered Huntington Beach,” leading to the calls. Two juveniles were detained for driving pocket bikes and their mother was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment after police accused her of knowingly allowing her kids to drive recklessly, police said.
Another man who fell off a mini bike was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving and driving on a suspended license, police said. Another juvenile showed up on a pocket bike when officers were on the scene and his father was arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, police said.
Two additional juvenile riders were cited and released. How many riders participated in the group was not known.
“When driving/riding becomes dangerous, people can get seriously hurt or worse,” the department said in the statement. “We take that seriously, and so should you.
“Huntington Beach has plenty of room for fun,” the statement continued. “Reckless driving/riding isn’t it.”
