At least 18 Pleasanton businesses hit in morning burglary spree

PLEASANTON — At least 18 businesses were burglarized Thursday morning in Pleasanton, police said. A burglar alarm brought officers to the 2700 block of Stoneridge Drive around 4 a.m., according to the Pleasanton Police Department. They arrived to find multiple businesses with smashed windows. Around 4:35 a.m., additional burglaries were reported at multiple businesses in Mission Plaza, located in the 4300 block of Valley Avenue. Police said four people were seen breaking front glass windows and leaving one business with a cash register. The suspects got into a car with no license plates, according to police. The car was found with all suspects believed to be inside, but it sped away when officers tried to stop it, police said. Officers pursued the car eastbound on Stanley Boulevard. However, the chase was called off west of Highway 84 due to safety concerns. Police said surrounding law enforcement agencies were alerted. An investigation revealed at least 18 businesses throughout the city were burglarized, police said, noting that restaurants made up the majority. Prior to Thursday’s incidents, 18 commercial burglaries were reported to police this year. At this point last year, poli ce had investigated 23 commercial burglaries.
