The Padres’ outgoing minor league free agents include two homegrown assets: Left-hander Jagger Haynes and outfielder Tirso Ornelas. The 24-year-old Haynes was the Padres’ fifth-rounder in the 2020 draft.
He had a 4.50 ERA over 374 innings in the minors and reached Triple-A El Paso (5.80 ERA, 40 ⅓ IP) this year. Haynes has averaged 8.7 strikeouts per nine innings and 4.8 walks per nine innings.
Haynes was ranked No. 14 in MLB.com’s assessment of the Padres’ system.
Ornelas, 26, had been a top-30 organization prospect in the past and made his MLB debut last year. But he was removed from the 40-man roster in February and spent all of 2026 at Double-A San Antonio, where he hit .253/.327/.443 with 17 homers and 54 RBIs in 120 games.
Ornelas hit a career-high 23 homers in 2024 at Triple-A El Paso and hit .289/.384/.450 with 10 homers in 82 games in 2025 with El Paso. Other minor league free agents who had big-league time with the Padres include Nick Solak, Bryce Johnson, Omar Cruz, Logan Gillaspie and Brent Honeywell.
