CARLSBAD — The Santa Fe Christian High School football team has climbed to No. 6 in the county based on a dynamic offense.
Friday the Eagles scored eight times but it was the defense that led the way, shutting out Army-Navy en route to a 56-0 win at Army-Navy s John Maffucci Field. In improving to 5-0 on the season, the SFC defense had 16 plays for zero or negative yards.
Army-Navy got a 29-yard run from Vincent Leatherman and runs of 16 and 18 yards from quarterback Brayden Baumbach in the first half, but punted on the first five possessions. One, however, resulted in a 90-yard punt return touchdown by Chase Wooley.
Another was blocked by Josh Wilson with the Eagles scoring on the next play on an 11-yard run by Brady Berg. That s the way it has been all season, SFC coach Jon Wallace said of his team s defense.
We re not big, but we play hard, fly to the ball. I m really pleased with our effort, especially against a talented team with good speed.
Army-Navy (3-2) had 23 running plays, netting 47 yards. The Warriors attempted 13 passes, completing three for 14 yards.
We take a lot of pride in our defense, said SFC middle linebacker Charlie Stover of a group that has allowed 27 points in five game. We set goals before every game.
Tonight was to hold them to seven points and get at least two turnovers. Once the game got out of hand a little bit, everyone got to play, but the backup guys didn t let up.

This is a really tight group, a team with great chemistry and I think it shows. Offensively, SFC rushed for 121 yards and threw for 146 while playing three quarterbacks – Dax Labrum, Brett Vermillion and Bryce El-Ghoroury.
