The 33-year-old right-hander struck out seven over 4⅓ shutout innings for Triple-A El Paso, his second start since resuming his rehab assignment.
Largely sitting 93 mph with his fastball, Pivetta allowed just two hits and one walk while throwing 44 of his 64 pitches for strikes against Oklahoma City. Rehabbing Dodgers catcher Will Smith accounted for one hit and one of Pivetta’s strkeouts.
Pivetta last pitched on Tuesday for low Single-A Lake Elsinore (3⅔ IP, 3 ER) in his first official game action since walking off the mound Aug. 4 with elbow discomfort.
While Pivetta did not return to the majors in time to maintain a $14 million player option for 2027 (130 consecutive days on the injured list converted it to a team option), Pivetta is still aiming to return in time for the Padres’ postseason push.
Pivetta has not pitched in the majors since leaving his fourth start of the season in April with flexor discomfort. He went 13-5 with a 2.87 ERA, 190 strikeouts and a 0.99 WHIP in 31 starts (181⅔ IP) last year.
He was 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA when he went on the injured list in April. Joe Musgrove is also nearing a return after making four rehab starts, but he’s expected to make one more bef ore rejoining the Padres’ rotation.
Springfield 8, Missions 6: RHP Eric Yost (7-4, 4.20 ERA) allowed eight runs on nine hits, including three homers, in the loss. RHP Garrett Hawkins (5.48 ERA) struck out four over 2⅔ scoreless innings.
LF Alex McCoy (.894 OPS) drove in three runs on three hits, including his third homer. 2B Justin DeCriscio (.886 OPS) went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

CF Kasen Wells (.675 OPS) went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.
