Rancho Santa Fe School to crack open ’50th Year Time Capsule’ on Oct. 5

The Rancho Santa Fe School District invites the community to help kick off its centennial celebration with the official unsealing of the district’s 50th Year Time Capsule, buried decades ago to preserve the memories, milestones, and spirit of the campus community. The adult-only event will be held on Monday, Oct. 5 at 5 p.m. in the district’s Performing Arts Center. “This celebration is not just about our school buildings; it is about the generations of families, educators, and community members who have built this remarkable district over the past century,” said Superintendent Kim Pinkerton in a news release. “We encourage everyone, whether you’ve lived here for fifty years or five months to join us for this special evening as we unearth our past and look forward to our next hundred years.” The district is looking for the public’s help in preserving its rich educational heritage. According to the news release, all past and present residents, alumni, staff, and families are encouraged to share historical documents, photographs, and personal stories for the district’s permanent archives. A “StoryCorps” style booth will be available at the Oct. 5 event, where individuals can record t heir personal stories, experiences, and reflections about the school and local community. After the time capsule is revealed, there will be a community reception with refreshments, conversation, and an opportunity to view the contents of the time capsule up close. “This milestone belongs to our whole community, so whether you are a lifelong resident or newly arrived, I invite you to help us commemorate our rich history as we embark on our next 100 years,” said Kerry Vinci, Rancho Santa Fe School Board vice president in the news release.
