SAN JOSE – Less than 12 hours after a disheartening 2-0 loss to the Buffalo Sabres, the Sharks on Wednesday tweaked their roster , recalling center Filip Bystedt and defenseman Libor Hajek from the Barracuda and sending defenseman Luca Cagnoni back to the AHL.
Bystedt, a first-round draft pick by the Sharks in 2022, has eight points in eight games with the Barracuda this season, and could make his NHL debut as soon as Thursday when the Sharks host the Vancouver Canucks.
Bystedt had 106 points in 131 career AHL games, and was the Barracuda’s leading scorer last season with 60 points in 65 games. Hajek, a stay-at-home defenseman, has two points in eight games with the Barracuda.
He spent most of the last three seasons in the Czech League and signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Sharks in July. He played 110 games with the New York Rangers from 2019 to 2022.
To help make room for the new roster additions, the Sharks also placed center Alexander Wennberg and winger Igor Chernyshov on injured reserve. Both are week-to-week with upper-body injuries.
The Sharks were outshot 41-23 by the Sabres on Tuesday as they were shut out for the first time this season. The Sharks debuted some new forward lines and defense pairs but had mixed results and were badly outchanced at times.
After starting the season 3-1-0, the Sharks are now 6-6-1 after losing four of their last six.
