As the latest screen adaptation of a Colleen Hoover novel arrives in theaters this weekend, the cast and author behind "Verity" are offering insight into the psychological thriller that has drawn a devoted readership.
Starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, "Verity" is based on Hoover's bestselling novel and centers on a story built around distrust, mystery and shifting perceptions For readers familiar with the 'twisted' novel, the film captures the spirit of the book.
The film stars Hathaway as Verity Crawford. The cast and Colleen Hoover sat down with Joelle Garguilo to talk about the film.
They also discussed how they might react if placed in the story's unsettling circumstances. "Take yourself out of it.
At what point are you personally bouncing from this house? Because I think I would have been out.
Like, I would have wanted a tour, and then I think I would have been out," Garguilo said. "It's such a pretty house that I and, like, Jeremy, the character, so I would be like, I'll just stay downstairs," Hoover said.
"I would have packed all of the research into my trunk and left," Hathaway said. "I don't even think I would have packed the research.
I just would have left," Josh Hartnett said. The film follows a writer, Loewen Ashley, played by Johnson, who is brought in to help complete a bestselling series after Verity suffers a horrific accident.
Verity's husband is played by Hartnett. The cast also discussed some of their personal favorite forms of entertainment.

I just can go through all of the books in one sitting. Like, I'm I'm I'm leaving my life right now," Hathaway said when asked about a favorite indulgence.
"The Traitors. The TV show, The Traitors.
When it's on, we have to watch the whole thing," Hartnett said. "Legos?" Dakota Johnson offered before adding, "Yes.
Yes. And I love my Nintendo Switch." As for what audiences should keep in mind while watching the film, the cast and author had a common theme: trust no one.
"Anyone," Johnson said when asked to finish the phrase, "Watching Verity, don't be so quick to believe ..." Hoover added, "Like, I questioned all of them. Even Cruz sometimes." Hathaway suggested viewers should be skeptical of even their own assumptions.
